He is known for his work as a member of the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan, and for several hits as a solo artist. Michael McDonald is a gold and platinum-selling American R&B/soul singer and songwriter. He is sometimes described as a "blue-eyed soul" singer and sings in a distinctive "husky, soulful" yet baritone range. McDonald has been married to singer Amy Holland since 1983. They have two children: a son named Dylan McDonald (born December 29, 1987 in Santa Barbara, California) and a daughter named Scarlett (born 1991).
A fictionalized online video series based around Michael McDonald (portrayed by actor JD Ryznar) and other popular singers and band members of the 1970s and 1980s, appeared in the online Channel 101 video series Yacht Rock. McDonald and his Soundstage concert were also mentioned numerous times in the movie The 40-Year-Old Virgin, based around an electronics store owner's insistence on incessantly playing McDonald's DVD concert in-store. In addition, the singing on the track "Boys Club" by band Ween, from the Shinola, Vol. 1 album, was rumoured to be a direct parody of McDonald's voice.
