Alistair Cees Overeem (born May 17, 1980) is a Dutch mixed martial artist and kickboxer. He is the current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion. He holds notable wins over top mixed martial artists such as Vitor Belfortx2, Sergei Kharitonov, Igor Vovchanchyn, Paul Buentello, Brett Rogers and Mark Hunt. In kickboxing he holds notable wins over Badr Hari, Peter Aerts and Ewerton Teixeira.

Brett Rogers:

Brett Rogers (born February 17, 1981) is a mixed martial arts fighter. He fights in the Heavyweight division. Rogers has fought in EliteXC and now competes for Strikeforce. As of December 2009, Sherdog ranks Rogers as the fifth top heavyweight in the world, while MMAweekly ranks him as the seventh top heavyweight.

Battle of Alistair Overeem and Brett Rogers

Alistair Overeem defeats Brett Rogers via TKO due to strikes at 3:40 of Round 1 to retain the Strikeforce heavyweight title.

Alistair Overeem, Strikeforce heavyweight champion, has not fought for the promotion since November 2007, when he won the title.

He finally returns to defend the title against Brett "The Grim" Rogers, who earned some new fans in his hard-fought loss to Fedor Emelianenko last fall.

At the start of the first round, both fighters engage for a few seconds. Overeem started the action by backing Rogers up a bit with some kicks and a leg kick. He then grabs Rogers’ legs and then goes to the mat. Rogers scrambles out but Overeem stops him. Overeem pushes Rogers into the cage and give him a flurry of hooks. Overeem unloads with a ton of punches from the top, and referee Big” John McCarthy ended the fight.

Overeem overpowered Rogers and finished the fight via strikes on the ground. He dominated Rogers to retain his title. Overeem wants to fight Fedor Emelianenko who fights later next month at a June event in Los Angeles. Fedor’s management turned down the chance to fight him on this show.
