January 29, 2010, Beulah Nicole “Niki” Gilreath Sumner, 35, was arrested for allegedly having a relationship with a 17-year-old male student while she was employed as a special education teacher at Warren East High School in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Sumner was charged with three counts of first-degree sexual abuse, a class D felony. On January 30, 2010, she pleaded not guilty to all charges.

As part of a plea agreement, Beulah Sumner reportedly pleaded guilty to six counts of first-degree sexual abuse. She is required to complete sex offender treatment and register as a sex offender for 20 years.
