Emily Kate Janes, a married 23-year-old former high school English teacher in Deer Park, Texas, pleaded guilty to having sex with an 18-year-old student. She was sentenced to four years deferred adjudication.

According to texasbar.com, "A defendant placed on deferred adjudication avoids a conviction or sentence because the judge is authorized to delay any finding of guilt or punishment for as long as the defendant successfully complies with the conditions of supervision."
