Heather Shelton, a 22-year-old teacher's assistant at a North Carolina high school was charged with sexual activity with a 19-year-old student.

Shelton began working at North Buncombe High School in February after she graduated from college with a degree in elementary education. She worked with special-needs students at North Buncombe.



Shelton has a MySpace.com web site, but her photos have been removed from the site, but not before they were downloaded by several news outlets.

In North Carolina it is a felony for any teacher to have sex with a student regardless of the age of the student. Authorities said Shelton and the unnamed 19-year-old, who was not her student, had sex April 1. If they had waited two months until he graduated, no charges would have been filed, said Detective Anne Benjamin.
