31-year-old Katherine Tew is a former North Carolina high school English teacher who was found guilty of taking indecent liberties with a child.

In February 2005, Tew was arrested after a 17-year-old former student told the school principal that he and Tew had a sexual encounter. According to the victim, before the actual encounter, Tew text messaged and called him numerous times. The actual encounter allegedly took place in the school parking lot on December 11, 2004. He also testified Tew pressured him into having sex, but that he soon put a stop to it.

Tew's attorney denied the school parking lot meeting ever happened. Tew testified she called students who had information about a rumor involving her husband who was allegedly having an affair with another teacher.



Telephone records show Tew and the victim talked 129 times from December 1, 2004 to January 25, 2005.

The jury found Tew guilty of taking indecent liberties with a student and will be required to under go a psychological evaluation, relinquish her teaching license for at least two years, perform 36 hours of community service and register as a sex offender.
