Former Maryland High School English teacher, Autumn Leathers, 24, was arrested on August 21, 2008, and charged with second-degree custodial child abuse, fourth-degree sex offense, perverted practice and second-degree assault after a 15-year-old male student told police the two were sexually involved.

On January 1, 2009, in a plea agreement, Leathers pleaded guilty to one count of fourth-degree sex offense in exchange for all other charges being dropped.
