Mr Manohar also stressed that ethics are as important as commerce.
Chirayu Amin takes over as interim IPL chairman,
Chirayu Amin, head of Baroda Cricket Association, was named the interim IPL chairman at the Governing Council meeting in Mumbai on Monday.
The IPL Governing Council, which met barely hours after the BCCI suspended Lalit Modi as the Chairman and Commissioner of the high-profile Twenty20 event, also decided against forming any interim sub-committee to handle the IPL affairs.
BCCI President Shashank Manohar, vice-president Arun Jaitley, secretary N Srinivasan, media and finance committee chairman Rajiv Shukla and IPL vice-chairman Niranjan Shah were among the members of the council present at the Board headquarters.
Modi was to chair the meeting before he was suspended and issued a show cause notice for alleged financial irregularities late last night. Modi has been asked to explain within 15 days why disciplinary action should not be taken against him for what the BCCI described as 'individual misdemeanors'.
"Typical Indian crab mentality! Whoever thinks big and becomes more powerful and successful than his master is pulled down. Till the charges of corruption were not brought up publically, Pawar, Patel, Manohar, Shukla and inc were happy with the money Modi was bringing in. As soon as he became bigger than them and started pulling his weight, they pulled him down unfairly. Everybody in power makes money illegally (which politician has not been involved in a scam? who has been punished?), but atleast Modi did something in return! What have the others done? This is a witchhunt...FIGHT BACK MODI!"
The decision to appoint Amin is an unexpected move by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as it comes against earlier predictions of Ravi Shashtri or Sunil Gavaskar being appointed as the new IPL chief.
Chirayu Amin is the chief of Baroda Cricket Association. He also heads Alembic Pharmaceuticals.
Amin's name was recently heard in connection with a case against the former BCCI president, Sharad Pawar.
Calcutta High Court had found Pawar guilty of lying in front of the court when he was the president of BCCI. However, in Mar 2010, when the Supreme Court set aside the HC ruling giving relief to Pawar, Amin, who was the BCCI junior cricket committee chariman, was one among the other BCCI officials who were also let off.
