The “Vogue” video focuses on the snarky Sylvester getting a Madonna-like makeover from Glee club students Kurt and Mercedes. It is described by Fox as a shot-by-shot recreation of Madonna’s own black and white music video for her 1990 hit single.
Jane Lynch is quick to make it clear she will not need to cram or study, to be ready for a Madonna song as she is already a fan. She says, "I've just been kind of up on Madonna these days. I'm loving her. I grew up in the '80s, so she provided the soundtrack to my life." The Sue Sylvester performance of Vogue will be just one of many exciting new pop and rock classics to be covered in the upcoming season of Glee, which will also feature some exciting new cast members in its episodes. I'm sure there will be many views and downloads of this season just like the first.
In 'The Power of Madonna' episode, airing Tuesday 20 April (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT), Mr. Schuester is concerned that the girls in the glee club are being disrespected and bullied by the male members. Looking to Madonna and her musical message of equality as inspiration, he challenges the entire team to choose Madonna songs as their next assignment in the hopes that the girls embrace Madonna’s strength, independence and confidence so that the guys will see the errors of their misogynistic ways.
The original Madonna video recalled the look of 1930 Hollywood glamor and was voted No.5 in a 2006 MTV list of the “Top 100 Videos That Broke The Rules”.
