Carangi was considered by some to be the first supermodel, although that title has also been given to others, including Janice Dickinson, Dorian Leigh, and Jean Shrimpton. Cindy Crawford, who also appeared on the covers of fashion publications during her time, was later referred to as "Baby Gia" due to her resemblance to Carangi. There was more success to come her way but her addiction led to a decrease in her career. She died at a very young age of 26. Gia got infected to HIV and died because of AIDS.

On November 23rd, Gia Carangi’s Funeral was held in Philadelphia. People from fashion industry have not attended her funeral; even her old friends also have not taken part, which belong from Philadelphia. Gia Carangi has done her last photo shoot and she added in the memories of people.
