Melissa Arnette Elliott (born July 1, 1971), better known by her stage name Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott, is an American recording artist, producer, actress and former member of the R&B band Sista as well as the Swing Mob collective.

At the age of eight, Elliott was raped nearly every day by a 16 year old cousin, until an aunt discovered the abuse almost a year later. Elliott stated, "No matter how many years ago, that's something that still affects me every day. If you get raped, that's something that's there forever."

“It made me become very strong when it comes to men,” she says. “It’s like, ‘Don’t even look like you’re mad at me!’ That’s how on edge I am. No matter how many years ago, that’s something that still affects me every day. If you get raped, that’s something that’s there forever.” Even before the rape, Elliott began having “end of the world” nightmares. “I was dreaming that the world was on fire, people were screaming and hollering. And I continue to have those dreams.”

“I talked to him at the beginning of last year. I gave him some money, so he’s good. He never talks about [the abuse]. I wouldn’t say he was a serial killer. But he had ways about him that just weren’t acceptable.”
