Corine Mauch is the first female and first openly gay person to be elected mayor of the city Zurich, Switzerland, on March 29, 2009. She is a Swiss Social Democrat politician who serves as mayor of Zürich.

Mauch is the daughter of Ursula Mauch, who led the Social Democratic Party in the federal parliament. She grew up in the canton of Aargau before attending ETH Zurich, where she studied agricultural economics, and the Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration (IDHEAP).


Corine Mauch is 48 and according to UK Gay News has been living with her partner for many years.

Since 2007, same-sex couples in Switzerland are given limited legal benefits with civil recognition. The city of Zurich, however, has offered partner registration since 2003. Zurich has been described as the Gay Capital of Switzerland.
