A BARMY sunbather soaks up rays on a narrow ledge on the FIFTH storey of London flats yesterday as a heatwave continued to scorch much of the UK today.
Forecasters tip today and tomorrow to be the hottest September 29 and 30 EVER recorded, with highs possibly above 28° C (82° F).
Saturday could near 28° C and Sunday 27° C (81° F).
The unusually warm weather is more than 10° C (50° F) higher than the average temperature for the end of September.
Top forecaster Paul Mott said: "We are still on for some exceptionally warm weather until Sunday.
"Temperatures today will probably reach 28° C (82.4° F) over the London area.
"Central and eastern England could reach up to 27° C (80.6° F), so it is very warm indeed.
"That is a good 10° C (50° F) to 11° C (51.8° F) warmer than what we would expect for this time of year."
The hottest place in Britain yesterday was St Helier, in Jersey, where the heat soared to 27.3° C.
Despite the soaring temperatures Plymouth City Council has announced that it will be preparing for SNOW this weekend.
The council said that because of damage caused by the last two harsh winters, it will have seven gritters on standby from this weekend.
