With his side still wrapped after retaining second-degree melts in the save, Booker informed a media meeting outside the burnt-out developing in Newark that he believed he might die as he ran through the smoke-filled home in search of the woman, Zina Hodge.
"I sensed worry. I really didn't think we were going to get out of there," said Booker, 42, who was adament that he had just done what any companion would do, "which is to leap into measures to help a friend".
The extraordinary save took position on Saturday evening when Booker came returning home after a TV appointment to discover his long-time neighbours' two-story home in flame with none of the people outside.
