The 31-year-old, whose new name will be Laura Linda Elegance, informs Moving Stone magazine's May problem that as a kid he sensed turned off from his system and has a situation known as sex dysphoria.
He says he programs to take testosterone, go through electrolysis and is also considering sex reassignment medical procedures.
"Growing up, my encounter with transsexualism was nothing but pity," he says.
Gabel says he is not drawn to men and will still be committed to his spouse Linda. They have a two-year-old girl.
He informed Moving Stone: "For me, the most frightening factor about this was how she would take the information. But she is been super-amazing and knowing."
This is once a significant rock celebrity has come out as transgender, the musician created a factor of discussing freely about it. "I'm going to have unpleasant times," says Gabel, "and that won't be fun. But that's aspect of what discussing with you is about – is expecting individuals will comprehend, and expecting they'll be pretty type."
