She became the first openly lesbian comic ever to appear on television in 1991 on an episode of Sally Jesse Raphael entitled "Breaking the Lesbian Stereotype...Lesbians Who Don't Look Like Lesbians." In 1991 and 1992, her stand-up comedy appeared on Comedy Central's Short Attention Span Theater and
Stand-up Stand-up. She went on to become the first openly gay comic to host her own HBO Comedy Special in 1994 (which earned her a Cable Ace Award nomination) and to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman in 2003. Suzanne's current US tour is entitled Totally Inappropriate.
When asked about Hillary and the gays, She said:
"I don’t know because I meet so many gays that don’t love her. But I do think a strong woman like that is going to turn on gay people because you’re going against the grain to be that kind of person and you run against the grain to be openly gay. She has the same type of struggle we’ve had in the world.
She’s pro-choice and a lot of people who understand this country understand that the way pro-choice goes also follows the way that we are pro-gay. They’re not even necessarily related issues, but when the country tends to lean a little bit pro-choice, a little more pro-woman, it also leans a little more pro-gay. Hillary is deeply, deeply pro-choice, as am I. "
