Maria Guzman Hernandez, 32, was teaching the sixth grade at a private school in Hialeah, Florida, when she was arrested and charged with sexual battery on a child over whom she had custodial authority.

Based on the police report, Hernandez was sexually active with an eighth-grade student for several months prior to her arrest. Detective Carl Zogby, a Hialeah police spokesman, told reporters that the boy's mother was aware of the relationship and approved of it, saying Hernandez was a good influence on her son.

Initially when police went to question Hernandez about her relationship with the boy, they were together on a trip to Disney World.
