On February 26, 2009, physical education teacher, Rita Brum, 24, was arrested and charged with child molestation stemming from an alleged sexual relationship she had with a 17-year-old female student.

Brum taught at Mt. Pleasant High School in San Jose, California at the time of her arrest.

According to a police statement, Brum had developed close relationships with many students outside of the school setting.
